Overview:
We are seeking a UX Design Technologist that is passionate about evolving a design system used to create information-rich user interfaces. This person will work with the team to strategize designs concepts to explore, determine the best fidelity and platform to prototype interactions, and iterate on experiences. Essentially bridging the gap between UX department and engineering to ensure a useful and usable web-based product – from concept to QA.
The ideal individual for this position is creative, self-directed, a team player, and passionate about building great user experience. The UX Design Technologist will be aware of market trends and current web application technologies and practices.
About the Team:
Akamai’s User Experience team designs our customers’ end-to-end experience—including how they buy and try Akamai and how they use and manage their Akamai products and services. This occurs though APIs and our portal UI, “The Control Center” and is in service of our customers, channel partners, and internal staff.
The team is made up of four disciplines: Research, Design, Writing, and Strategy. As the collective voice of the user, the team strives to create connected and intuitive experiences that accelerate both developers and users to achieve success—as they define it. To do so, requires improving the user experience, scaling a user centric approach internally and seeding the cultural transformation required to do so successfully.
As a UX Design Technologist, you will be responsible for:
* Support UI planning by assisting in scoping and estimates
* Understand the business objectives and requirements
* Collaborate with UX designers on the creation of concepts to meet requirements
* Communicate concepts and prototypes to team members and stakeholders for feedback and refinement
Required Education and Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Interaction Design, Human Computer or equivalent experience
Required Skills:
* 2 years relevant work experience in UX or Software development
* 2 years of experience with fluency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript
* 1 year of experience with Node, Git and Angular
Desired Skills:
* Interaction or equivalent experience.
* Familiarity with JIRA
* Experience with modern front-end technologies; JavaScript (e.g Angular) and CSS pre-processing (e.g Sass)
* Experience with version control
* Experience and excitement about User Interface design
* Excellent problem-solving skills
* Comfort communicating with designers, product managers, and engineers
* Ability to determine technical feasibility and tradeoffs
* Familiarity with Design Systems
