About the Job

 

We are currently expanding the tax function in Cambridge and are looking for talented and motivated people who would like to be part of our team in our Cambridge office and support the team with the review and preparation of the state corporate income tax returns,  monthly state, county, and local sales/use and property tax returns, state and local annual reports and business licenses, along with the required work papers and any indirect tax inquiries from customers or vendors. The incumbent is required to perform all tasks in a manner consistent with corporate policies and state and federal laws.


About the Team


The Tax Team is located in US (HQ) and Poland.  You will have day to day contact with the Team.  You will report to the US Tax Manager, who reports to the Vice President of Tax.  The tax department reports to the CFO and works directly with the finance group.

 

Responsibilities

 

The tax associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:


  • Assistance with the preparation and review of the state income tax workpapers, including state apportionment workpapers.
  • Review of work papers to support sales/use, and property tax returns.
  • Oversee coordination of the preparation of tax returns with third party providers.
  • Review electronic funds transfers (EFTs) to pay taxes that are due.
  • Interact with state officials to resolve notices and/or requests for information.
  • Review exemption certificates to ensure the company only pays sales tax to the proper jurisdictions.
  • Review and gather information needed for tax audits.
  • Analyze sales tax accounts and record journal entries when necessary.
  • Interact with other Finance associates to resolve tax issues that arise.
  • Special projects, as they arise.

Required Education and Experience

  • 3 years of experience in Public Accounting and a CPA. 
  • 8 years of experience in a corporate tax function with a BS/BA Degree and 6 years of experience with a Masters Degree.  Experience should included state Income tax and state sales and use taxes.

 Required Skills
  • 2 years with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access)
 Desired Skills

  • Masters in Taxation
  • CPA preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in state and location taxation (income and indirect taxes)
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks/projects.
  • Ability to work within strict time frames and resolute deadlines
  • Ability to preserve confidentiality of information.Ability to work suitable with various employees in the finance department and other departments within Akamai.
