About the Job

 

Akamai Technologies is looking for an experienced public policy professional to join its public policy office. Reporting to the Vice President, Global Public Policy, this role will be responsible for continuing to build the public policy function at Akamai. The individual will be responsible for working closely with Akamai’s executives to develop policy positions and advancing them, with a focus on international fora. The individual will also work closely with third-party consultants to monitor and advocate on issues of import to Akamai and have responsibilities for internal communications regarding relevant public policy developments. This position is full-time and based in Washington, DC. As a Global Public Policy Director, you will be responsible for:

  • Help craft Akamai’s positions on policy issues.

    Help develop and execute strategic approaches for advancing Akamai’s public policy goals.
    Represent Akamai with elected officials, regulators, and multi-stakeholder policy groups, with particular emphasis on engagement with third-party advocacy groups
    Prepare executives prior to meetings with government officials, regulators, and other policy groups, including drafting materials for briefing books and developing talking points.
    Advise Akamai teams on public policy matters that impact the Company’s operations and development of products and services.
    Communicate public policy developments internally at Akamai and develop mechanisms for scaling internal communications
    Work with outside consultants, outside counsel, and trade associations to monitor and advocate on issues of import to Akamai, including reviewing and drafting pleadings, as necessary.


About the Team

 

The public policy function is a relatively new at Akamai.  The role will coordinate closely with Akamai’s executives worldwide and its Legal team. The Legal team currently consists of approximately fifty professionals located in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Poland, Singapore, Australia, India, China, and Japan.



 

Basic Qualifications


  • 10 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent or 8 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree or professional degree

 
Required Skills


 

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in public policy and/or public affairs matters, including government experience, and ideally experience representing corporations before the government

  • Superb written and oral English communications skills.

 Desired Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of Internet-related public policy issues, including cybersecurity.

  • Extensive knowledge of Internet technologies and overall technical acumen.

  •  Experience with global policy issues and representing corporate interests internationally.

  • Experience effectively interacting with technologists and executives in order to develop appropriate policy positions on matters impacting the business.  Must be able to act as an independent principal.

  • First-rate personal, political, and analytical skills.

     Fluency in other languages a plus.
